☕ The Blend - Issue #3

the one where you design your environment

☕ Hi and welcome to the Issue #3 of The Blend ☕!

“If you really want to do something, you’ll find the way.

If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.”

Jim Rohn

This quote is so powerful, it’s the essence of procrastination in my opinion. We are the biggest threat to our own achievements.

At the beginning of my journey with self-development, I’ve discovered that there is no such thing as motivation. You don’t need that magic ‘motivation’ to do stuff… actually it’s quite the opposite - motivation is a by-product of real results!

I can understand that things can seem impossible in the beginning.

The most crucial part is to divide your upcoming work into the smallest tasks possible. This will help you start, which is the key!

Motivation comes from success, specifically from the dopamine hit when you see yourself making progress!

Actions → Results → Motivation

I know it might sound counterintuitive, but action and success is the fuel for more motivation, and ultimately for more action 😊

How can I get the work done?

1. Design your environment

In order to get more things done you need to start with creating a proper environment for yourself. It’s almost impossible for me to get the work done, when the surrounding place is not optimal for me 🙈.

I am working 100% remotely, that’s why carefully designed my desk space.

You can find my current setup here: https://www.dyguda.com/uses/

2. Sound / Silence

Depending on the preferences - one person likes working with silence, the other one with smoothing jazz in the background, yet another one with dubstep… no matter the preference I’d encourage you to try a different route and see how it will influence your mood/focus.
I’d myself went through couple of phases… currently the best focus I get is when I am using my ANC headphones (Bose 700) in combination with Focus music from Endel.io.

Yes, I am using ANC headphones even though I am working 100% of the time from home. It helps me focus.

3. Do not disturb

As I have already written in previous issue, the one of the keys to focus is distraction free environment. So whenever I work I am putting my devices into Do not disturbed mode. I am working on a macOS and I’ve created a shortcut that turns this mode on both my phone and laptop and I don’t get any of the notifications. I am controlling the notification, not the other way around.
